A few examples of some projects that have materialised through the financial assistance of the Friends of All Hallows:
The Bishop John Fisher Triptych
The Friends of All Hallows presented to the Church a newly designed icon triptych showing the life of Bishop John Fisher, one-time Bishop of Rochester and saint of the Church. After his beheading on Tower Hill the body was hurriedly brought to the Parish Church for a decent burial and Bishop Fisher was laid to rest just to the east of the North Porch door. In order to help people understand a visit to All Hallows and to make such a visit more interesting we have improved our signage within the church building and this gift of the Friends will add greatly to our present visitor information. Michael Coles, an eminent artist and stained glass craftsman has designed the triptych.
The Queen Mother Centre & Vestry Restaurant
A dramatic new restaurant within the ancient walled garden of London’s oldest city church, All Hallows by the Tower. This 1300 year old church has stood on Tower Hill as a beacon heralding Saxon armies, warning of the Spanish Armada and witnessing the joys and sorrows of the people of London. Now it offers to the people of London a new experience. Within the sunken walled garden, surrounded by herbs and fragrant shrubs the Vestry Restaurant offers cuisine inspired by centuries of international trade and visitors from all over the world. The quays of the parish of All Hallows traded in spices from the east, cinnamon, sugar, ginger, exotic tastes from the orient landed in the Pool of London on the River Thames. For centuries trade has flourished here. And now brought into the 21st century by Silver & Cream, part of the Woods River Cruise enterprise and closely linked to the River Thames present a new restaurant in a unique setting.
